COLUMBUS, OH, Jan. 4, 2021 — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 10 deaths on Ohio’s roadways during the 2020-2021 New Year’s holiday according to provisional statistics. Two fatalities were the result of not wearing a safety belt when available, four were OVI-related and five were pedestrians. The four-day reporting period began at midnight Thursday, December 31, 2020 and ran through 11:59 p.m. on January 3, 2021. This is higher than the two-day reporting period last year, when four fatalities were reported.
Troopers made 3,979 traffic enforcement contacts; including 303 OVI arrests, 115 distracted driving and 478 safety belt citations.

COLUMBUS, OH, Dec. 28, 2020 — Provisional statistics released today show fewer motorists were killed on Ohio’s roadways this Christmas holiday, as compared to the two previous years.
During the four-day reporting period, from Thursday, December 24, at 12 a.m. until Sunday, December 27, at 11:59 p.m., nine people were killed in seven fatal crashes. Sixty-six percent of those killed in fatal crashes over the holiday were not wearing an available safety belt. Using a safety belt remains the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Troopers removed 142 impaired drivers from Ohio’s roads during the holiday, which is an increase of 137 percent compared to last year. Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and designate a sober driver or make other arrangements to ensure everyone arrives safely at their destination.
Twelve people were killed in 2019, which ran from December 23 to 25. In 2018, there were 11 people who were killed, which ran from December 21 to 25.

*CORRECTION* COLUMBUS, OH, Sep. 2020 — This updates an earlier report of 10 fatal traffic crashes which claimed 10 lives over the Labor Day Holiday and adds links to a complete breakdown of OSHP Labor Day enforcement activity. The agency reports eight fatal traffic crashes claimed 10 lives.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting eight fatal traffic crashes which claimed 10 lives over the Labor Day Holiday according to provisional data. Troopers arrested 538 drivers for OVI and issued 3,289 safety belt citations. Troopers also made 477 drug arrests and 170 felony apprehensions. A total of 26,035 traffic enforcement stops were conducted along with 14,533 non-enforcement stops. Troopers also provided assistance to 2,944 motorists. The Labor Day reporting period began Friday, September 4 at 12 a.m. and ended Monday, September 7 at 11:59 p.m.

WAYNE COUNTY, OH, Apr. 17, 2020 — Construction report for the week of April 20, 2020.
US Route 30
US 30, at the intersection of SR 94 in the Village of Dalton, will have single lane closures for intersection improvements. Both US 30 and SR 94 will have lane closures dependent upon the work and traffic will be maintained by temporary traffic control systems when needed. The turn lanes at US 30 and SR 94 will be intermittently closed in order to complete the necessary work. The project is expected to be complete May 2020; however, all work is weather dependent and is subject to change.
State Route 94 ***NEW***
SR 94, just south of Doylestown Road, will close Monday, April 27 for a culvert replacement. The detour route for southbound motorists will be SR 94 to I-76, west on I-76 to SR 57, south on SR 57 to SR 604, east on SR 604 to SR 585, northeast on SR 585 to SR 94, and reverse for northbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen Friday, May 1.
