Portman’s ‘Combating Meth & Cocaine Act’ to be Signed Into Law
WASHINGTON, DC, Dec. 2019 – U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) announced recently that the Senate passed the final FY 2020 funding package including Portman’s bipartisan Combating Meth and Cocaine Act, legislation that will give states more flexibility to use federal opioid funding to address the resurgence of psychostimulants such as methamphetamine and cocaine. Specifically, the bill expands the use of the State Opioid Response Grant funding to address rising use and overdose deaths attributed to the abuse of methamphetamine and cocaine. The legislation now heads to the president’s desk for his signature.
“When I talk to law enforcement, treatment providers, and others on the frontlines of the drug crisis, I am increasingly hearing about the resurgence of methamphetamine and cocaine overdoses across Ohio,” said Portman. “This legislation will give states more flexibility to use federal opioid funding to address the resurgence of methamphetamine and cocaine, which will better address the on-the-ground reality of addiction in my state and many others.”
